2nd Prize at X. International Competition for Violin and Viola "Szymon Goldberg" in Meissen, Germany17/5/2018 The competition took place 09-13 May in the beautiful town of Meissen, which is located near Dresden and is well-known for its porcelain manufacture and as a wine region. Participants from Germany, Belgium, Czech Republic, Great Britain, Serbia, Japan, Korea and China entered in 2 age categories: the Junior category 17 year and under, and the Senior category 18 years and above. In 3 rounds (1st Round, Semi finale, Finale), the young musicians presented a comprehensive virtuosic programme including works by Paganini, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Wieniawski, Ysaÿe, Prokofiev, as well as works by local contemporary composers. The 6 finalists were then invited to present one showpiece within their competition repertoire in the prize winners’ concert on Sunday 13th May in Meissen’s elaborate Town Hall. Amber chose Wieniawsky’s Polonaise de Concert in D major, which was enthusiastically received amongst the audience. As the only prize winner in the Junior category, she received a monetary prize, a scholarship for a masterclass in Austria later this year, and a concert offer in one of Dresden’s beautiful villas in the 2018/19 season.
Lots of fun and hard work in the Mastercourse in Italy and at Pro Corda in Suffolk this year! The last pre-Chets concert! Located in the beautiful All Saints Church in Kingston upon Thames, Amber will present the characterful, resonant and flexible sound of her new violin to an audience of which many will have made a contribution towards funding the instrument. Accompanist will again be the wonderful Alison Rhind. Fantastic concert yesterday, 10th April 2014, at the Great Hall at Kings College Wimbledon with the Marryat Young String Players, conducted by Leandro Silvera. Amber was leading the orchestra and played the solo part in Vivaldi's Concerto Grosso D minor, alongside Olivia Bartlett and Jack Lucas-Clements. |
